Our visit to Vermont Soapworks

Natural and Organic Stuff That Foams

Just down the street from Otter Creek Brewing, where we were scheduled to do a show the next day, we came across the Vermont Soapworks, a manufacturer of natural organic castile liquid soaps, handmade bar soaps, shampoo, bath and shower gels, and other organic stuff that foams!

From their small facility behind their retail outlet in Middlebury, VT, they hand make a wide variety of organic soaps for almost every purpose.  We talked with the manager Helda and she gave us a peek at some of the wide variety of soaps they make.  She was very focused on the purity and simplicity of their product, and the mission statement of the company clearly defines their goals. Modern soaps have become a unnecessary chemical soup and your skin is absorbing these chemicals when the simple soaps work as well of better, are biodegradable, and are gentler on your skin.

Vermont Soap Organics was created to manufacture and market high quality, unique and natural personal care products of usefulness and value; and to be an example of how corporations can be a tool for positive social change. They have pledged to conduct their business in an environmentally aware manner emphasizing reuse and recycling, the use of natural base ingredients, and the application of appropriate technology.

We were very impressed by the products and left with a large bottle of “Liquid Sunshine”, an all purpose cleaner which we soon put to the test when the Doris Mae deposited a large blob of grease on one of my very few pairs of pants that I brought.  We had already tried to wash the grease out once with another cleaner and in the process the grease had become set even harder.  The Liquid Sunshine removed the grease without a problem.  We also picked up a “Butter Bar”, a “Shampoo Bar” that we have not tried yet, and a “Lemon Grass Zen Foaming Hand Cleaner” that works like a champ!
